I began the semester with a clear goal in mind for what I wanted from my meme. I wanted to work with a real group of people and use my meme to further the goals of a good organization. I decided this after doing the consultation with the two customers in class. Between the two customers, I found TBNT (Thanks But No Tank) to have a far more important cause and were nicer to work with. They were truly excited about spreading their message in new and exciting ways. To be able to work with that kind of energy is very rewarding as a new media student. The businesses that will succeed in the years to come will be the ones that subscribe to TBNT’s business model to promoting their cause.
While it was great to work with them, there were downsides as well. Having never worked so closely with an organization before, I wasn’t aware of the amount of freedom that I had in making the promotional material for their cause. I got caught up in the fear that I would be infringing on copyright by using the material they had available on the site. This prevented me from getting started, but once I got going, I’ve made three different poster designs that can be printed out for cheap and placed around the midcoast area. One of my images is at the top of tbnt.org and all of them have been made available to the mailing list, which is sent out daily to over 20 people and keeps people updated on the meetings. I was unable to get google analytics results as I’m not an admin of the site yet, but results will be in soon.
Even though I have just begun working with TBNT, I’ve really enjoyed working with them and plan to continue helping them in the future. The skills we’ve learned in this class can be extremely helpful to any business or organization, making us more valuable and useful when we head out into the work force.
